Morocco AFCON appeal victory confirmed after CAF ruling, as Morocco prepares confidently for WAFCON and upcoming global football competitions

Morocco has expressed confidence in its preparations for upcoming international football competitions, including the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), following a controversial ruling in its favour over a disputed Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) match result.

The Appeals Board of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) overturned the original outcome of the final, awarding Morocco a 3–0 victory after determining that Senegal breached competition rules during the match.

CAF found that Senegal players left the pitch in protest of a penalty decision, an action ruled to be in violation of tournament regulations.

The decision marks a significant shift from the initial result, where Senegal had secured a 1–0 win after extra time.

Morocco had previously lodged an appeal against the result, which was initially dismissed before the Appeals Board later ruled in its favour.

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation welcomed the decision, describing it as a significant step toward strengthening fairness and consistency in African football governance.

The federation added that the ruling reinforces the importance of strict adherence to competition rules and enhances the credibility of CAF-organised tournaments.

Morocco also reaffirmed its readiness for upcoming competitions, including the FIFA World Cup and the rescheduled WAFCON tournament, which will now take place from July 25 to August 16 after a postponement from its original March dates.

Football analysts say the ruling could have wider implications for disciplinary enforcement across African football competitions.
