Tony Perkins, a prominent American television host, has said he declined a request by Nigerian First Lady, Remi Tinubu, to appear on his platform to discuss religious freedom issues in Nigeria.

The disclosure was made during a segment of Washington Watch, where Perkins hosted US lawmaker Chris Smith, on Sunday night.

Perkins claimed that the First Lady approached him with the intention of covering up alleged killings of Nigerian Christians.

“She wanted to come on the programme to talk about religious freedom, and I said, ‘I’m not gonna meet with them,’” he said in the viral video.

The broadcaster vowed never to provide a platform to conceal what he described as government-led targeting of Christians in Nigeria.

Despite the Federal Government’s assertion that there is no genocide against any religion in the country, some US lawmakers continue to insist that Christians are being specifically targeted, adding international pressure to the issue.

Perkins’ firm stance has generated widespread reactions online, highlighting concerns about religious freedom and the political tensions surrounding the Tinubu administration.
