Keke Napep riders in Taraba State are struggling as fuel prices surge due to global oil market disruptions linked to tensions in the Middle East.

Petrol now sells for between N1,300 and N1,400 per litre, prompting many tricycle operators to raise fares from N200 to N300.

Muhammad Maikudi, leader of the Keke Napep Association, urged calm among riders and passengers, emphasizing that everyone is affected by the economic pressure. He encouraged peaceful fare negotiations and mutual respect to prevent conflicts.

Operators like Emeka Uche warned that without urgent interventions, many may be forced out of business. Residents also expressed concerns that upcoming Sallah and Easter celebrations may be subdued if transport and goods costs continue to rise.
