The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Secretariat has stepped in to resolve the controversy surrounding Senator Olugbenga Daniel, overruling the party’s Ogun State chapter and affirming him as a bona fide member.

A formal communication dated November 17, 2025, signed by APC National Secretary Sen. Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, instructed the Ogun State Chairman to cease all public correspondence regarding Daniel’s membership status.

The letter emphasised that suspensions of high-ranking officials, including serving Senators, must be ratified by the National Working Committee (NWC) in line with the party constitution.

“Please take note that the National Working Committee (NWC) is yet to deliberate on this matter as provided in Articles 21.3(d & e) of the party constitution… until then, Sen. Otunba Olugbenga Daniel remains a bona fide member of the party,” the communication stated.

The intervention comes a week after leaders from Ogun East held a press conference condemning alleged attacks on Senator Daniel by operatives of the Ogun State Government.

Representatives from the nine local governments in the district claimed that the suspension was a politically motivated move linked to the 2027 general elections.

Daniel’s camp has argued that the purported suspension aims to clear the path for incumbent Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, who is reportedly eyeing the Ogun East Senatorial District seat upon completing his second term in 2027.

Attempts to obtain comments from Daniel’s team were unsuccessful, while a spokesperson for the Ogun APC chapter could not be immediately reached for reaction.

The national directive signals the APC’s firm control over internal party processes, potentially averting a protracted political crisis in Ogun State.
