Supporters of Senator OGD accuse Ogun government of substandard work after halting federal Paddy Arikawe Road project in Sagamu

supporters of Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel have accused the Ogun State Government, led by Governor Dapo Abiodun, of delivering substandard work on Paddy Arikawe Road in Sagamu’s Government Reserved Area after halting a federal constituency project facilitated by the senator.

The controversy dates back to September 2025, when the state Ministry of Works issued a stop-work order to the contractor handling the rehabilitation, citing a lack of necessary approvals and permits.

The project, described as a short stretch of around 260 metres, was a constituency initiative linked to Senator Daniel, representing Ogun East.

At the time, state officials insisted the directive was purely procedural, emphasising that no work could proceed on state roads without proper clearance to avoid duplication or quality issues.

They dismissed claims of political motivation amid ongoing tensions between the governor and the former Ogun helmsman.

Recent social media posts from eyewitnesses claim the state has since awarded the same road to its own contractor and is executing visibly inferior work compared to the federal plan.

They question why a supposedly higher-standard federal effort was interrupted only to be replaced by what they describe as shoddy construction, while numerous other deteriorated roads in the state remain neglected.

Photographs circulating online purport to show side-by-side comparisons of the two phases of work, with critics arguing the state’s version lacks robustness in materials and finish.

Residents of Sagamu have previously expressed frustration over the initial halt, viewing it as prioritising politics over infrastructure needs.

The Ogun State Government has not yet responded to the latest allegations of inferior workmanship. Earlier statements stressed an unwavering commitment to durable roads and due process.
