Nigerian Army foils kidnapping in Taraba, rescuing three victims in Karim Lamido LGA following intelligence-led operation on January 5, 2026

Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke, have foiled a kidnapping attempt and rescued three victims in Taraba State.

According to a Tuesday statement signed by Umar Muhammad, Army Public Relations Officer, 6 Brigade, the operation was conducted on January 5, 2026, following credible intelligence about the activities of suspected kidnappers in Sangai Village, Bachama Ward, Karim Lamido Local Government Area.

“Acting promptly on the intelligence, troops were immediately mobilised and pursued the suspects towards the border area between Taraba and Plateau States. On sighting the advancing troops, the kidnappers abandoned their captives and fled into the surrounding area,” the statement read.

The rescued victims 25-year-old Nimron Umar Ab, 20-year-old Safaras Ibrahim, and 23-year-old Habila Yunusa are currently in military custody, where they are receiving necessary care and documentation before being reunited with their families.

The Commander of 6 Brigade, Brigadier Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their swift action and reaffirmed the brigade’s commitment to sustaining operations across the state.

Brigadier Uwa also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, noting that such cooperation is vital to the success of ongoing military operations.
