The multi-sport festival aims to provide a platform for athletes across the Niger Delta to compete, while organisers pledged technical support to ensure a smooth and inclusive registration process.

Lead Consultant Sir Itiako Ikpokpo, KSM, was represented by Project Director Fred Edoreh during the inauguration of Liaison Committees for Ondo, Edo and Delta States on Thursday and Friday at their respective state capitals.

Sir Itiako Ikpokpo urged members of the State Liaison Committees to work collaboratively to implement their responsibilities effectively.

“We expect work to begin and trials for athletes to go through the inner parts of all your state local government areas to give opportunities to all indigenes,” he said.

The functions of the committees include organising preliminary athlete trials from the local government level to final state selection, ensuring online registration of all participants, and uploading selected athletes to the games’ registration portal.

Committees are also responsible for ensuring compliance with the general and technical rules and regulations of the games.

Additional responsibilities include overseeing the camping and training of state contingents, arranging comfortable transportation to and from the Games, and executing all directives from the Project Consultant, Dunamis Icon Limited.

In Ondo State, the Liaison Committee is chaired by Commissioner for Sports Segun Henry Omoyofunmi, with Dr Henry Babatunde as Secretary, alongside members Tunde Akinsemola, Segun Giwa, Chairman of the Ondo State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), and Mrs Evelyn Lebi, State Director of Sports.

Edo State’s Liaison Committee, inaugurated on Friday in Benin, is chaired by Hon. Amadin Enabulele, with Bright Idahosa as Secretary. Other members include Sogbayi Opeoluwa, Joseph Aghahowa, State Director of Sports, and Kehinde Osagiede, SWAN State Chairman.
