MACBAN Plateau herders attack Bassa incident was confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday in Jos by the state chairman, Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, who said the victims were engaged in lawful grazing activities when they were ambushed.

According to Babayo, the attackers, described as “Irigwe Militias,” opened fire on the herders, forcing them to flee while also killing livestock using machetes and gunfire.

He described the incident as unprovoked and reported that it had already been communicated to relevant security agencies for investigation and response.

MACBAN official warned that the attack poses a serious threat to the livelihood of pastoral communities and could further strain already fragile peace efforts in Plateau State.

Babayo stressed that cattle rearing remains a legitimate means of survival for thousands of families, adding that any violence against herders should be treated as a serious security concern.

He urged security agencies to urgently investigate the incident and ensure those responsible are brought to justice, cautioning that failure to act could escalate tensions in the region.
