Ogun East senator leads high-level discussions on innovation, sustainable infrastructure and engineering standards at COREN’s 34th Engineering Assembly

Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel, the lawmaker representing Ogun East Senatorial District, chaired a high-level technical panel at the 34th Engineering Assembly of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), bringing together senior engineering professionals, policymakers and government officials to examine practical solutions for sustainable infrastructure and the future of engineering practice in Nigeria.

The annual gathering reinforced Daniel’s longstanding connection with the engineering profession, with the former Ogun State governor leading deliberations that centred on innovation, technological advancement and the critical role of engineering in accelerating the country’s socio-economic development.

The Gbenga Daniel COREN Engineering Assembly engagement attracted a distinguished audience that included the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, Minister of Regional Development Abubakar Momoh, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Dr Kingsley Udeh, former Osun State Deputy Governor Senator Iyiola Omisore, Senator Patrick Ndubueze, alongside other leaders from government, academia and the engineering profession.

Beyond the technical sessions, one of the notable moments of the assembly came when COREN’s leadership publicly acknowledged Daniel’s contributions to engineering and national development.

COREN President Prof. Sadiq Abubakar and the Council’s Vice President and Chairman of the Main Organising Committee, Engr. Olu Ogunduyile, commended the senator for his sustained commitment to advancing engineering standards and supporting policies aimed at strengthening infrastructure delivery across Nigeria.

The COREN leadership said Daniel’s career continues to demonstrate the value of combining professional expertise with public service, describing his contributions as beneficial to both the engineering profession and national development.

Daniel, who trained and practised as an engineer before entering politics, has consistently maintained an active interest in infrastructure development throughout his public career.

As Governor of Ogun State between 2003 and 2011, his administration pursued several road, housing and public infrastructure projects, while his current legislative role has seen him remain engaged in discussions on national development and economic growth.

The Gbenga Daniel COREN Engineering Assembly appearance also reflected the confidence reposed in the senator by engineering stakeholders, who entrusted him with moderating conversations on some of the sector’s most pressing issues.

This year’s Engineering Assembly focused on developing innovative responses to Nigeria’s infrastructure challenges, promoting sustainable engineering practices, strengthening regulatory standards and encouraging greater collaboration between government, industry and professionals.
