The incident occurred in Nsukka Local Government Area.

The arraignment on Wednesday came after detectives of the State Criminal Investigation Department concluded a thorough investigation directed by the Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa.

Confirming the development, the Enugu State Police spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, said, “Detectives have arraigned and secured the remand of Emeka Emmanuel Nwangwu after the conclusion of investigations by the State CID.”

The suspect was initially arrested on December 1, 2025, for allegedly assaulting the deceased in an incident that resulted in her death.

Ndukwe explained, “Upon his arrest, the Commissioner of Police directed the State CID to conduct a meticulous investigation and ensure the case was promptly charged to court.”

Following the arraignment, the court ordered Nwangwu’s remand at the Enugu Correctional Centre and instructed that the case file be forwarded to the Ministry of Justice through the Directorate of Public Prosecution for further review and legal advice.

Commissioner Giwa expressed sympathy to the bereaved family, assuring them that justice was in motion.

“We extend our condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. The investigation has been concluded, and the suspect has been arraigned and remanded accordingly,” he said.
