David Raya performance drew widespread attention after the Spanish goalkeeper produced a series of crucial saves that helped Arsenal secure a narrow 1-0 victory in Lisbon, courtesy of Kai Havertz’s stoppage-time winner.

Despite the late drama that ultimately decided the match, Rui Borges insisted that Raya was the most influential player on the pitch, crediting him for denying Sporting CP several clear scoring opportunities.

Speaking in a post-match interview with Prime Video, Rui Borges acknowledged that his side created quality chances but were repeatedly frustrated by the Arsenal shot-stopper’s interventions.

He noted that Raya’s consistency and reflexes made a decisive difference in a closely contested encounter.

The Sporting CP coach also remarked on the balance of the game, suggesting that while both teams had moments of control, the effectiveness of Arsenal’s goalkeeper tipped the scale in favour of the visitors.

David Raya’s performance was recognised officially as he was awarded UEFA’s Player of the Match, underlining his impact in preserving Arsenal’s advantage ahead of the second leg.
